Where've we been?

Hello everyone

We've had a crazy 6 months and haven't blogged in that time. We have, however, become active on twitter (@headhackinglive) and instagram (instakev and hhaddict). Ant is, of course, still prolific on Facebook and email and you can find us both at uncommonforum.com's hypnosis board.

Last month we ran The Trilby Connection in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Our host, Frankie Lee, was very well organised and helpful with all aspects of our trip. We had a lot of fun and made lots of new friends. We expect to be back in Malaysia next year and are already looking forward to it.

On the research front we've been doing a lot of background reading and work on the scripts that will be delivered in our experiment. Over the coming months we hope to blog our thoughts on some of the more significant scientific papers - unfortunately, most of these cost money but hopefully given our review you will be better informed as to their value to you.

We have also launched a shop on amazon.co.uk recently. If you have our products, please review them on amazon to let other buyers know what you think.

Xmas discount - 20% off all Head Hacking products in December 2011. This discount also applies to our shop on amazon.co.uk as well as www.headhacking.com/products and www.headhacking.com/mproducts - our magicians' shop.

We'll both be at the Japanese Geek Dinner tomorrow night so might see some of you there.

Head Hacking giro per l'Italia

Ciao!

Head Hacking in Italia this weekend. I am sat at the back of the room (rather than on the stage at the front), with Marcus Lewis and Alex Hendrick, watching Anthony present. Why? Why are we at the back instead of presenting all together at the front? Because Anthony is being translated on-the-fly from urban Kentish to perfect Italiano by professional translator, Roberta, and it would just be too confusing and complicated for us all to talk together. Plus Anthony rarely leaves an opportunity for anyone to get a word in edgeways (must be something about being a hypnotist and talking relentlessly) but when there is a translator involved and Anthony gets 5 seconds to think between each sentence, there is absolutely no way anyone else would get a shot without first sticking Ant's mouth shut!

Milano was good to us last night and even though it sporadically rained heavily, many of the students found ways to get people interested and performed. In Italy many people seem to be scared of the word hypnosis, and more so about the word Sleep. This is clearly just superstition but it can be a major barrier to street hypnosis. Yes, fear is emotion and can be worked with, but if the subject won't even give you the time of day and is scared to be in your presence then it's much harder to get them to clasp their hands together and make a desperate prayer.

To get around this the students generally did not mention hypnosis with anyone over the age of 20. They just offered to show some mind tricks or to show how the subjects could use their mind to make interesting things happen. It was an exercise in reframing that paid off; once the students got over the fear of approaching random people, and their subjects weren't scared off by the word hypnosis, they found that people were interested and would follow their instructions. Just as in the UK, the majority of the public were having their usual Saturday evening and jumped at the chance to experience something amazing and different. Any question whether this would be more difficult in Italy was mute and we all had a wonderful time.

Many thanks to Dialogica, Alex Hendrick and all the students for making this such a great course.

Ripped Apart: The Automatic Imagination Model has been released!

Ripped Apart - The Automatic Imagination Model is an audio CD, featuring an 80 minute conversation between Anthony and I where we explore models of hypnosis. One model that we discuss is our new Automatic Imagination Model that was developed at Head Hacking Research by linking a few key ideas from modern hypnosis scientific research, psychology and neuroscience.

In the process we explain why we have given up on state theories and special process theories and instead have found a much more simple method of achieving the full range of hypnotic phenomena.

I'm sure everyone practicing or interested in hypnosis will find it an interesting listen and hopefully it will encourage some of you to challenge your beliefs of how hypnosis works.

Mad Pad released

For magicians and mentalists, we have today released our Mad Pad.

Many of our professional colleagues have been deceived by this utility device that lends itself to a wealth of existing tricks and effects. We feel the addition of the Mad Pad will make these numerous and popular forms of tricks and effects much easier and cleaner.

Hello Stranger! part 3

Hello again. This is the final part of the Head Hacking update and it concerns the products that we are launching soon.

We start off with Reality is Plastic: The Interview. This 5 hour MP3 CD is packed with content as Igor Ledochowski mines the depths of Anthony's experience with hypnosis. From his beginnings in hypnotherapy, through performance, Reality is Plastic book, The Manchurian Approach and The Trilby Connection.

This product contains the hypnotism approach that is taught on the Head Hacking training courses, plus a number of insights and revelations that don't appear in other products.

Reality is Plastic: The Interview is available now from Head Hacking.

Coming very soon will be the Head Hacking Tannen's Magic Lecture DVD. Filmed in New York City at the famous Tannen's Magic Shop and featuring Anthony Jacquin, Amit Badiani and Marcus Lewis, this lecture DVD features multiple demonstrations and thoughts on phenomena and performance. You can see the trailer here.

Another imminent release is Ripped Apart. This 80 minute audio CD is a conversation between Anthony and I describing the hypnosis scientific research that we've been reading over the last year. During our research we had an idea and made what we think is a small leap forwards from the established science and ended up with a hypnosis model of our own. The new model promises to provide a means to hypnotise more people and also achieve greater phenomena. We are very excited about this. :)

Following on from Reality is Plastic: The Interview will be Reality is Plastic: Audiobook. Everything in the book, read to you by Anthony.

Magicians and mentalists should be on the look-out for our brand new Mad Pads. Can't reveal anything more here but be prepared for a product that has impressed many brilliant minds.

And finally, don't forget the next change | phenomena conference on 16th July 2011. Line up has been confirmed and will be announced very soon!

Best wishes

Kev

Hello Stranger! part 2

Hello again. This is the second part of the huge Head Hacking update.

So, last year. We had a mini whirlwind of overseas trips: Lyon (The Manchurian Approach), Las Vegas (invited to teach Street Hypnosis on Igor Ledochowski's course), New York City (lecture at Tannen's Magic Shop), back to Cologne (another Manchu) and Edinburgh (The Trilby Connection). This year kicked off with a trip to Sydney (Trilby) and then picked up with Paris (Manchu) and Las Vegas (invited to teach Street Hypnosis on Jay Noblezada's HTG Live).

Edinburgh was during the snow but the gods of hypno stopped the downfall just before our trip and started again a day after we left. Pretty handy because my car (being rear-wheel drive and quite light) doesn't work very well in snow. A year before we were sliding around the M25 at 30MPH trying desperately to make it to Gatwick so we could get out to Cologne to teach a Manchu - I mean, London and snow doesn't really happen. Scotland and snow, on the other hand, happens all year round; but we had snow socks and a shovel so we thought it would be find - and it was! Many thanks to ace mind reader, Colin McLeod, for helping to arrange this course.

HTG Live in Las Vegas was amazing; 50 delegates, multiple trainers, a great setting, sunshine, cocktails and loads of street hypnosis. Paul Vigil's performances (on the course and also at The Mirage) were awesome; he is clearly one of the best.

We are off to New York at the end of the month to teach The Trilby Connection and we're both really looking forward to it. Later in the year we will be back in Australia, Las Vegas and across Europe. We are thinking about south east Asia, south America and Antartica, so if you live in one of those regions and are interested in training let us know so that we can register your interest.

In the next (and last part) of this update I will describe the products that we've been working on since last summer and hopefully raise your excitement over their impending release.

Happy hypno

Kev

Hello stranger!

Hello again. I bet you wondered where this blog was going; four posts and then nothing. Well, it just so happens that Head Hacking really took off last year and Anthony and I have both been really busy. This blog post is really just a catch-up to describe our journey to now.

It all started with Reality is Plastic: The Art of Impromptu Hypnosis - the book that Anthony wrote following our involvement with Hypnosurvival. For those that don't know, it teaches a flexible and effective impromptu approach to hypnosis all within 100 easy-to-read pages.

To accompany RIP (Reality is Plastic), Anthony produced Reality is Plastic: The Set Pieces and Inductions DVD. This really provides a clear and visual demonstration of many of the important concepts in RIP.

Shortly after we launched our first course, The Manchurian Approach - Hypnotism for Magicians, the best-known on-line magic shop in the UK - Alakazam - got in touch and offered to make the DVD set. Knowing next to nothing about making DVDs, we jumped at the chance and the four-disc The Manchurian Approach DVD Set was released in July 2009. It was an amazing experience and one in which we learned a lot.

Now that we'd seen behind the curtain and understood a little about how to make a DVD, we embarked on making the equivalent for our other course, The Trilby Connection - Effective Street Hypnotism. Overthrow | UK (the design company we have used since the outset) had just expanded into sound and video and presented the opportunity to make it with us. We rented a set, arranged some participants and just got on with it. It wasn't cheap to make, but the love we put into it produced, in our minds, something of particular beauty and something that we are very proud of. There are only half-a-dozen or so known glitches that couldn't be fixed and to us it is 99.5% perfect.

The other product that we launched last year was Mask of Sanity. This is a full mentalism effect that can be performed close-up, in parlour or on stage. We have had a lot of fun developing this effect and a lot of great reactions while performing it.

In our first year of running The Manchurian Approach course, we were asked to run the same in Germany for a group of professional mentalists and magicians. Following a successful course, we have since delivered the same course 4 more times in Germany and once in Austria. This pretty much brings us up to the point where things stared to go crazy, on which I will chat in the next update.

Have fun

Kev
